How Our Firm Uses Technology

We Always Strive to Make Our Legal Service More Efficient

In order to provide quality legal service at reasonable rates, our firm strives to make our legal service as efficient as possible. We achieve this through conservative staffing for projects, the timely meeting of deadlines and client goals and the use of the latest available technologies. By using state-of-the-art technology in our practice, we can make communication and billing easier, organize documents more completely and keep all client information secure.

At the Katz Law Group, P.C. we are continually in search of new methods of using technology to help our lawyers and staff have the tools to respond effectively to client needs. Our business litigation, insurance defense, real estate and employment law practice is rooted in our sound judgment and our overall approach to legal service, but is aided by technology in a variety of ways, including:

Improved Communication

We use the Microsoft Small Business Server with Microsoft Exchange to improve our ability to communicate with our trial attorneys, staff members, outside counsel and, most importantly, our clients. By using this software to manage our system, we are now able to share calendars, create global address books, enhance mobile access and centralize e-mail filtering. We also keep this system safe through enhanced e-mail security and the use of metadata.

Accurate and Efficient Billing

Using Sage Timeslips 2009 software, our firm is now able to use e-billing with clients and improve our overall billing system at every level. We can now reprint bills, create a layout cover page for client bills and allow other types of billing arrangements to be integrated within our traditional hourly billing system. Since we offer alternative-fee arrangements, including fixed fees and blended fees, this is important.

We can also provide custom reports and alerts that meet the specific needs and requests of our clients.

Document Organization and Safety

Since business litigation is often complex, it involves hundreds of documents and exhibits in discovery, preparation for trial and other aspects of the case. Proper organization of these documents is crucial to the success of the case, and our firm uses productivity software — including Summation and LiveNote — to keep documents and exhibits readily accessible.

Of course, these documents are also sensitive and need to be kept secure. Before any document leaves the firm, our security software scans and encrypts them to ensure that no metadata is distributed without consent. This also decreases the likelihood of virus scans or malware getting into our computer systems and the systems of our clients.
